How To Report Keith Olbermann to FCC

I’m writing a detailed chapter on FCC complaints for a project I’m working on, but Keith Olbermann needs reported now. Here’s his egregious new abuse of the news.

Here is the FCC online complaint form. Here is the Privacy Act Notice for how they will use your information.

This is how I filled mine out:

Complete the top part with as much of your contact information as you want to. The more you include, the better for processing.

Complaint portion:
“1. MSNBC
4.a. MSNBC
b. Countdown with Keith Olbermann
c. 4/30/09
d. 8 pm
5.a. 4/30/09
b. 8 pm
c. Keith Olbermann and guest engaged in obscene, indecent and offensive hate speech full of lies and personal attacks against Miss California. These attacks were against her religious beliefs which are protected under the First Amendment. This is on a show on an all news network. It contained inappropriate bias. Here is the link of the segment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZK_0vmoIPI

Please investigate, fine and remove Olbermann from the air.”

The key components of the complaint are to use some or all of the following words which trigger an investigatable complaint: news bias, obscene, indecent, hate speech. It’s good to provide them with a copy to look at to make the job easier. It’s also important to tell them what action you want them to take.

Get Olbermann off the air and PMSNBC will wither up and die. At least get him fined and start to make his hate speech painful to him as it is to us.

Keep us updated with your results.

  1. Joey says:

If Olbermann is reported than ALL of Fox News should be reported as well.

  2. gonzo marx says:

excuse me…but First Amendment rights are to protect against gov’t interference, not that of a broadcaster, so Olberman CANNOT possibly violate or infringe on some one’s right to free speech or the practice of their religion

on the other hand, the poster here is attempting to censor Olbermann by this frivolous (can you say tort reform?) action and filing, thus removing him from his ability to make a living

“judge not, lest ye be judged”

    • You did read the post didn’t you? I was complaining of his hateful and obscene language which is in violation of FCC guidelines of broadcast media. Filing a valid complaint to a regulating body on illegal activity is not censorship.

My action is not frivolous. Frivolous is without merit with the intent to harass. My complaint to the FCC was neither.

  3. JOey says:

I’ll pick up for Joey. Why should Fox be reported as well as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Sarah Palin and others? Because they also engage in hate speech every day of their professional lives. They incite violence; they encourage hate and divisiveness.

Unfortunately for me – and for you, Lisa – neither Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity nor Keith Olbermann will ever have action taken against them by the FCC. See, the Federal Communications Commission can not take action against cable television networks. Channels that are available by subscription only are not subject to the same laws as the broadcast networks.

In addition, and whether we’re normal people or Republican/Tea Bag Hacks we can ALL thank God that the blessed First Amendment of this country protects our right – that is, MY right, your right, Keith Olbermann’s right, even Rush Limbaugh’s right – to say what they want.

    Thanks for trying Lisa!

    • You are incorrect. FCC deals with obscenity, indecency & other content related issues. http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/complain.html

Someone reporting the other side does not encourage hate or divisiveness. There is a difference between news, opinion and hate. Also the first amendment does not protect our right to say anything. There are a wide variety of regulated speech of which hate & obscenity on television are just one.

  4. Rosalie Hall says:

He is the best, He reports news in an intelligent, honest fashion, verses the lies and distortion you hear on Fox.
